The Lara Big Band is gearing up for a busy festive season, with several performances across the region to spread holiday cheer through big band music.
Formed in 2023, the Lara Big Band is a community ensemble that brings together musicians from across Geelong and surrounding areas. The band plays a range of swing, jazz, and contemporary big band classics, creating vibrant performances that engage audiences of all ages.
This year, the band will perform at the Lara Community Centre Christmas event on December 6, followed by a special live performance opening Christmas in Lara on December 20 from 4 pm, setting the festive mood for the evening. The band will also add a touch of class to the Lara Food and Wine Festival on March 16, 2025.
The band’s growth has been supported by the Community Bank Lara District, which recently awarded the band a second grant. This funding allowed the purchase of new performance equipment, including a stage piano, music stand banners, and speakers. With over $10,000 in total grants received, the Community Bank Lara District remains the band’s greatest support, ensuring the band continues to thrive.
“We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support from the Community Bank Lara District,” said Dr Cameron Anderson¸ the founder and President of the Lara Big Band. “Their generosity has been instrumental in helping us grow, and we’re excited to bring our best performances to the community this Christmas season.”
The Lara Big Band is also actively recruiting musicians who can play saxophone, trumpet, trombone, bass, and drums and want to be part of this exciting group. For more information or to inquire about membership, visit their larabigband.org or visit one of their upcoming performances.
