The Lara Big Band, a young and growing community jazz orchestra, proudly announces the generous support it has received from the Community Bank Lara District. This grant, worth almost $6,000, has come at a pivotal time as the band approaches its one-year anniversary and continues to welcome new talent from all over the region.
Founded with the support of the Lara Community Centre Inc., the Lara Big Band has rapidly become an outlet for musicians looking to develop their skills and play in a powerful big band. The band brings together musicians of various ages, backgrounds, and skill levels, all sharing a love for jazz and big band music. The grant from the Community Bank Lara District has enabled the band to acquire new equipment, including a drum kit and professional music stands, crucial for their ongoing development and performances.
Conductor Cameron Anderson expressed his gratitude, stating, “We are incredibly thankful for the support from the Community Bank Lara District. Their investment goes beyond just aiding our band; it is a testament to the role of community music in bridging generational and cultural divides, creating strong networks within our community.”
The band is always looking for new members. They rehearse every Thursday from 7 to 9 pm in Lara, and encourage musicians from any part of the region to join. The Lara Big Band is a place for students, seasoned musicians, and those returning to music after a break, offering a supportive and enriching environment for all.
The band is also excited to perform at the upcoming Music in the Park event on March 2, at Austin Park, Lara. Having recently returned from performing at the Port Fairy Jazz Festival, the band looks forward to sharing its favourite hits from the golden era of jazz with local audiences.
