Who We Are
The Lara Big Band Inc. is Geelong’s premier, energetic jazz ensemble based in Lara. Made up of musicians from the Greater Geelong and western Melbourne regions, the band supports musicians in both the continuation of, or return to, playing. Between weekly rehearsals and regular performances at community events and festivals, the Lara Big Band promotes a supportive, relaxed space for musicians.
The group was dreamed up to provide an opportunity for local musicians to reconnect with their instrument and their love of music in a supportive, friendly and fun environment. With the valued support of the community, the group has grown to a member base of over 20 players as of mid-2025: a diverse ensemble of all ages and skill levels, united by a shared love for the language of music.
Our History
The Lara Big Band Inc. formed in March 2023 as a small community start-up. Attended by 8 local musicians – most of whom are still members of the band today – our first rehearsal marked the beginning of an exciting future for the band. Interest in the group grew throughout the year, with an additional 10 musicians joining the group.
